DEI Policy

  • DEI, especially in the workplace, including populations who have historically been under-represented or subject to discrimination because of their background, identity, disability. As a respected international trade association, and Non-Government Organisation member of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), it is increasingly prudent for ISSA and its members to buy-in to the concept of DEI, not least of which is to reflect the changing situation pertaining to employee recruitment and retention.
  • We therefore encourage all members of ISSA to put into place their own DEI training , to encourage functional knowledge of fellow employees’ identities and identify ways to navigate differences in an organisation. The purpose of DEI training is to encourage self-awareness, cultural competency, and empathy in employees; addressing unconscious bias, as well as promoting an overall safe, welcoming workplace environment for those of all races, creeds, and ethnicity.
